HP Notebook PCs - Testing a Webcam Using YouCam (Windows 10, 8, 7)

This document pertains to HP notebooks using Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7.

Preform these steps to exam and troubleshoot the camera and video adequacy of a webcam using Cyberlink YouCam.

Opening YouCam

To examination the webcam with Cyberlink YouCam, open the software application.

  1. In Windows, search for and open up YouCam, or click the YouCam icon on your desktop.

  2. If YouCam does not display in the list of search results, download and install the latest version of the software from the CyberLink YouCam (in English) website.

  3. When the awarding opens, the webcam paradigm displays on screen.

If YouCam opens and an image displays on screen, proceed with the adjacent department to continue testing.

Testing the webcam by recording and playing a video

To verify that the webcam is operating properly, use the YouCam software to record a video by performing the post-obit steps:

  1. Click the video photographic camera icon on the toolbar.

  2. Click tape to begin recording.

  3. Let YouCam record for a few seconds, then click stop to end the recording.

  4. To view the video clip, double-click the thumbnail image in the bottom panel.

  5. To delete the video clip, right-click the thumbnail image in the lesser panel and select Delete Selected Media.

Testing the webcam by taking a picture show

To take a motion picture, perform the following steps.

  1. Click the camera icon on the toolbar.

  2. Click the shutter push button to take the movie.

  3. To view the picture, click the thumbnail epitome in the lesser panel.

  4. To delete the picture, right-click the thumbnail image in the bottom panel and select Delete Selected Media.

Error message displays when opening YouCam

The YouCam awarding might not open or might brandish an fault message similar to the post-obit:

Cannot connect to this video device (USB Video Device).
Please select another capture device via Settings or shut any application that may be using this video device and restart YouCam.

Follow the steps below to resolve the error message.

note:

Only one programme at a time tin use the webcam driver. For example, you cannot open and use YouCam while doing a video conference with an instant messaging program. If there are any secondary video applications open up on your computer, close them to go on testing.

Pace i: Verifying the webcam hardware in Device Manager

  1. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

  2. In Device Director, double-click Imaging devices.

  3. Verify that your webcam or video device is listed under Imaging devices. If the webcam is listed, skip to Updating the webcam driver. If non, continue with the adjacent step.

  4. If at that place is no webcam or video device listed, select Imaging devices and select Scan for hardware changes to scan for the webcam or video device.

    note:

    If no hardware is found later running the scan, there might be an issue with the webcam hardware. Contact HP for assistance using the Contact HP tab at the acme of this page.

  5. If a webcam or video device is institute, right-click on the device and select Enable.

  6. Open YouCam to come across if the application opens with the selected webcam. If this did not resolve the consequence, continue to Step ii.

Step 2: Updating the webcam driver

  1. Make sure you are connected to the Cyberspace.

  2. In Device Manager, double-click Imaging devices.

  3. Right-click your webcam or video device, then select Update Driver Software.

  4. In the Update Commuter Software window, select Search automatically for updated commuter software.

  5. After the bulletin, Windows has successfully updated your driver software, or The best driver software for your device is already installed, click Close.

  6. Open YouCam to see if the application opens and the commuter update resolves the error message.

No image displays in YouCam viewer

If YouCam opens, just the screen displays the CyberLink YouCam logo instead of an image, there might be an incompatible device selected past default.

Follow the steps below to resolve this webcam brandish problem.

  1. Open YouCam, so click the settings icon.

  2. In the settings menu, click the webcam icon.

  3. From the Capture Device drop-down menu, select your webcam or USB video device.

  4. Click OK to accept the choice.

  5. Exit and restart the YouCam software to view an paradigm.
